A policy is typically described as a deliberate plan of action to guide decisions and achieve rational outcome(s). However, the term may also be used to denote what is actually done, even though it is unplanned.
The term may apply to government, private sector organizations and groups, and individuals. Presidential executive orders, corporate privacy policies, and parliamentary rules of order are all examples of policy. Policy differs from rules or law. While law can compel or prohibit behaviors (e.g. a law requiring the payment of taxes on income), policy merely guides actions toward those that are most likely to achieve a desired outcome.
Policy or policy study may also refer to the process of making important organizational decisions, including the identification of different alternatives such as programs or spending priorities, and choosing among them on the basis of the impact they will have. Policies can be understood as political, management, financial, and administrative mechanisms arranged to reach explicit goals.

  7. Guideline principles of practice, is what this article refers to. This article discusses the importance of the community being involved with policy debates. Federal regulations must be maintained when dealing with policies. The W. K. Kellogg Foundation commitment connects with a community's vision and values. By establishing this relationship, it then makes it easier for policy makers and the community to adhere to one another's feelings and thoughts. This relationship remains very open and even allows the community to put forth impute in many cases. By doing this long term goals and achievements can be made.

  10. Applying policy tools to achieve long-term change, in my opinion is a great way to achieve that goal. I believe this because it involves the community to be heard and offer their ideas. This is a great idea because who better to know what the problems are than the community it effects? This goal is achieved through four steps: 1)Policy work supports the achievement of our programmatic goals. 2)Effective policy reforms grounded in the experiences and knowledge of our community partners. 3.)Community voices should be prevalent in the policy debates, particularly those without past access to the policy process. Lastly the use of W.K. Kellogg Foundation resources to influence public policy efforts must comply with federal regulations. The community is encouraged to participate and offer suggestions.

  11. This particular article talks about the framework in developing effective policies. The Kellogg Foundation provides a brief overview on how to implement policies that are going to really make a difference in the communities. The foundation supports public and private organizations that do good for the community. One important thing to keep in mind is that you must have goals for long term change. Whether or not you achieve those goals will determine if your efforts are actually producing any results within the community. In having effective policy plans you must have a dependable leader , one who is going to facilitate and oversee all activities in order to achieve goal. Also the key to policy development is policy education.Overall this was another informational required reading.
