Stable income is something that I hope to maintain in the future. Money is not everything but it certainly runs acccross my mind constantly. In the future I want this to be eliminated. As I grow and present myself to the working public, I hope to find a job in which I am very happy in doing. Accordingly, I hope money follows. I do not have to be rich but I want enough money to where I can be comfortable, free of financial worry. I want to be able to create a living for myself and not rely on others to take care of me. Economic security is a huge issue that this book alludes to. There are so many things wrong with our Nation, that many are finding it dificult to maintain their families or themselves. Economic security not only refers to money but also: the ability to provide for children, job position being held, and being able to afford medical assistance (amongst other things). There are many useful tips in this book that paints a picture in which I have never seen. There are many policies that pertain to this topic and can be used to advocate for others in this situation.
As a college student I think that I am financially stable, but I would like to be saturated with funds, being unable to take in any more money. I have reached this pinnacle through various business ventures, but I have also lost an abundance of money as well. I think that as I graduate from school and pursue my graduate studies, I believe that I will eliminate the lost of finances through various different hustles by working in an agency. This book discusses economic security in a very understandable manner. This book also discusses the issues that this country faces in terms of being finances. Economic security not only refers to money but also: the ability to provide for children, job position being held, and being able to afford medical assistance (amongst other things).
This article does an excellent job of first explaining NASW's values, beliefs, and mission as they relate to economic empowerment. The article gives the program description, the current policy challenges, and the suggested policy directions for each of the following programs: Medicare, Medicaid, State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), Social Security, Supplemental Security Income, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families, Food Stamps, Tax Credits as Supports for Low-income Families, Unemployment Assistance, and Additional NASW Resources. The article tells readers what they need to know about eligibility and the application process for these programs.
All social workers should be familiar with these programs. They may not have all of the regulations memorized for every program, which is understandable, but they need to have some knowledge of the available resources so that they can adequately educate clients. Afterall, two main roles of social workers are educator and broker.
In addition, people should be familiar with existing programs and policies. Those in need should take interest in available resources for themselves. Also, others should take interest in programs and policies for advocacy reasons. Advocates must know about policies, which ones are adequate and/or inadequate, in order to propose the needed changes.
Therefore, this article is very informative and beneficial to all people. We all must strive to educate ourselves and each other.

This was extremely informative. I was not aware of the many programs, and federal policies that can be cut back in this time of recession. These programs include, but are not limited to: healthcare, food stamps,TANF, unemployment insurance, tax credits, medicaide, medicare, social security benefits etc. According to the National Association of Social workers, all social workers must be educated and knowledgeable about federal funding, and how our clients can obtain benefits and money from the government when in need. I agree with this statement, because how are we as social workers going to be effective if we do not know? We can't be helpful, therefore it is our obligation to stay up to date with new information. The federal budget is done yearly, therefore there are always changes and adjustment to the current policies.
